Early morning crash kills Mount Vernon woman

A Mount Vernon woman died early Monday morning following a crash on Highway 174, two miles east of Mount Vernon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. when a 2003 Acura TL driven by a 45-year-old woman from Mount Vernon went off the left side of the road. The driver overcorrected, causing the car to travel off the right side of the roadway, where she was ejected from the vehicle.

The patrol reported that the woman was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Scott Lakin at 4:51 a.m…
