Former Stone County, Mo., employee charged with stealing over $13,000 in taxpayer money

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – A former Stone County employee faces felony charges, accused of stealing taxpayer money from the collector’s office.

A state audit earlier this year found more than $13,000 missing from the collector’s office. This week, the Stone County prosecutor charged Whitney Brown with felony stealing.

Investigators say Brown took cash and checks from people and marked them as paid, but failed to deposit the money into the county account…
