SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Food pantries and community meal programs are experiencing a significant increase in demand, with organizations across the area reporting higher-than-usual turnout for their services.
At the Drew Foundation Community Hub Thursday night, families and individuals gathered for a free community meal and food pantry services. The turnout was larger than typical for a weeknight, according to volunteers and regular attendees.
“Yeah, this crowd is actually larger than what we’ve seen in the last couple of weeks. I think people are certainly feeling the pressure of the SNAP or lack of SNAP and things like that,” said Americ Winchester, who receives food assistance at the Drew Lewis Foundation and serves as their cook for the free Thursday night meals…
