SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury men’s soccer fell 3-0 against No. 3 McKendree in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Tournament quarterfinals on Sunday.
The opening half was a defensive battle. McKendree fired the first shot in the fifth minute. Gage Vehr responded with a shot on target, which the Bearcat’s goalkeeper saved in the ninth minute. Goalkeeper Camden Meyer was called to make a save in the 28th minute to keep the game level. Mason Platts and Steen Voller had chances in the 30th and 38th minutes that could not find the target. Steen Voller closed the half with a strong shot, which was stopped by the goalkeeper again. The teams went into halftime even at 1-1.
McKendree broke through early in the second half, scoring in the 48th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Drury responded with shots from Sam Tagg and Mason Platts in the 57th and 60th minutes. Camden Meyer made two key saves in the 63rd and 64th minutes. A defensive mistake led to an own goal for the Panthers in the 69th minute, putting them 2-0 down. Drury kept fighting for a way back into the match, but a McKendree goal in the 84th minute sealed the 3-0 loss to end the season…
