SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — It’s never too late to return your library books.
That still holds up this week, as Springfield Public Schools posted on social media that a library book last checked out in 1972 (yes, 1972) finally made its way back to an SPS library.
A post on SPS’ website says librarians at Parkview High School got a package delivered on October 22, with a book inside titled “A Little Treasury of Love Poems,” last checked out by Jayna Potter Ross.

In the package was a note that said, “I checked out this book in May 1972. I know it is in rough shape and hope it can still be used. I should have returned it sooner, and I apologize for my negligence.”
According to a release about the return, an SPS librarian told Ross by email that the book would be used as an example for students that any book could be found, “even if they’ve been checked out for a while.”…
