Two Panthers Place at Drury Open

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling rolled through the Drury Open on Saturday. Both Gavyn Uribes and Nolan McKelvy placed in the event contested at Weiser Gym on the campus of Drury University.

Uribes finished fourth at heavyweight, finishing with a 3-2 record on the day. Uribes won both of his first two matches, the first by pin fall in the opening period. After a loss in the semifinals, Uribes was moved into the consolation bracket where he picked-up another pin to advance into the third-place match. Jude Beers from Northeast Oklahoma A&M defeated Uribes 26-10.

McKelvy worked his way down to 174-pounds after the start to the season where he began competing at 185. McKelvy pinned his first opponent then won the quarterfinals match against Griffin Mithcell from Fort Hayes dramatically 2-0. Like Uribes, McKelvy lost the semifinal match and moved into the consolation bracket where he found his way to the fifth-place match. McKelvy got a rematch against Mitchell and the second time around produced another shutout, winning 8-0.

Dalen Kimble went 2-2 on the day at 157-pounds. Kimble won by technical fall and decision. Tay Martinez and Drayden McKerrow each collected a win on the day in their respective weight classes…
