Stray showers transition into flooding rains this week

Happy Monday! We have another classic case of Missouri’s weird weather on the way. Temperatures will chase record highs at the start of the week before a soggy soaker moves in to finish it.

The toasty temperatures won’t be here today. A low-pressure system will sling a couple of rain chances our way tonight. The first opportunity comes in the form of hit-or-miss showers during the late morning and early afternoon.

Don’t expect a washout as totals will be on the lighter side. Most locations can expect anywhere from nothing up to about 0.1″.

We’ll have a better chance for rain overnight as isolated, sub-severe thunderstorms are expected to develop. I’m not too concerned about severe weather; however, lightning strikes and small hail will be possible.

Wet weather pauses on Tuesday. Skies clear out and temperatures warm to potentially record levels. Springfield will need to reach 78 degrees to dethrone a nearly 100-year-old record.

Waves of rainfall arrive to finish off the work week. Showers begin rolling in overnight Wednesday, with rain lingering through most of Thursday and Friday.

Rainfall totals are starting to look impressive. The latest models have shifted the heaviest amounts slightly away from the Ozarks, but I still believe we can pick up 1–3″ to close out the week…
