Springfield man sentenced for firearm theft connected to shootings

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Springfield man was sentenced in federal court on Tuesday, Nov. 18, after possessing a stolen firearm involved in two shootings.

According to a United States Department of Justice press release, Jayden Isaac Simmonds, 19, was sentenced by Judge M. Douglas Harpool to 63 months in federal prison without parole for being an unlawful user of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm.

Simmonds first pleaded guilty on May 19 after admitting to stealing a Smith and Wesson 10mm semi-automatic pistol. The man told officials that he used marijuana daily and was addicted to fentanyl…
