National-Sunshine development in waiting game as planning and zoning commission ties on vote

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — In what could have been a step towards a decision on the proposed rezoning of the northwest corner of National and Sunshine in the heart of Springfield, it is now a waiting game.

In mid-October, at a Springfield City Council meeting, BK&M asked councilmembers to send the issue back down to Planning and Zoning, as the people behind the project want to ensure the rezoning could allow for a hotel, on top of a list of low-density uses for the properties.

“We’re simply asking for a zoning similar to the adjacent corner with Cox Health. You got institutional on the southeast corner, and then you’ve got retail commercial in the other corner, so we’re just trying to limit ourselves to office, medical office, residential uses, park or education,” Chris Wynn, on behalf of BK&M, said. “That’s the case in front of you guys tonight, very similar to last time, just memorializing the hotel’s conditional use permit, which would require site planning and everything else.”…
