SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — With winter weather arriving in the Ozarks, City Utilities (CU) is suggesting a few updates to help warm your home this season and lower utility costs.
CU says one of the best ways to keep heat indoors is to check if your home is well-insulated by inspecting walls, floors, ceilings, attics and crawl spaces. Customers who improve their insulation may also qualify for a 20% rebate, up to $500, on project costs.
Another tip is to cover up tiny openings in your home where cold air can sneak through, such as installing door sweeps, weatherstripping exterior doors, applying caulk around windows and sealing any cracks in frames or foundations.

Other suggestions from City Utilities include using the sun’s heat by opening curtains and blinds during daylight hours, changing your furnace filter two to three times throughout the heating season, setting ceiling fans to go clockwise during cooler months and keeping the water heater temperature at 120-125 degrees…
