Last Friday, Dec. 6, the rural Christian County district’s kindergarten class went into the woods to explore nature and find their tree (and more). At the heart of this effort is Marie Day, local historian, community champion, longtime teacher and school board member, who has been hosting kids at her farm for at least 40 years.
“I think it’s a relaxing thing,” said Marie, waiting for the bus of students to rumble down the rural gravel road. “It’s out in the open, doesn’t cost them anything, and they need to be out in the air.”
The tradition began back when Marie was a teacher at the small school, which today has about 250 students kindergarten through high school. Even though she’s nearly 90 years old, she still hosts the kids each year…
