A small planes crashes on a highway north of Springfield.
The plane – a 2008 Cirrus Design Corp SR-22 — made a crash landing in the northbound lanes of US-65 just north of the I-44 junction in Springfield around 1pm on Saturday afternoon. The plane departed earlier that day from Memphis en route to Olathe. The pilot of the plane had originally planned to make an emergency landing at the downtown Springfield airport but instead was forced by engine problems to make the highway landing.
