Trading Snow for Sunshine: Ozarks Heat Shatters December Records

Well, I’m sure some people are upset that we won’t be getting a white Christmas this year. But if you ask me, sunny skies and 70-degree temperatures are the next best thing.

Record highs were scattered across the Ozarks today. Springfield, Joplin, West Plains, and Harrison all set or tied record marks as temperatures soared into the 70s.

If you’re wondering just how rare this warm-up is, prior to today we hadn’t reached 70 degrees in December in over 1,000 days. Luckily for us, the warmth isn’t going anywhere just yet.

Temperatures tomorrow have the potential to be a couple of degrees warmer than what we saw today. Skies will be a bit cloudy to start the morning, with patchy fog developing early.

Sunshine will become more abundant by the afternoon, along with a slight breeze from the south. The quicker we clear the clouds, the higher the thermometer will climb.

We’ll be chasing record highs, with temperatures in the 70s for the next four days.

The warmth comes crashing down on Sunday as a cold front returns us to what we typically expect for December. Highs will fall back into the 40s, with overnight lows dropping below freezing, so be sure to enjoy the warm weather while it lasts…
