Springfield bicyclist killed in Christmas Eve vehicle crash

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield Police Department (SPD) says a bicyclist who was hit by a vehicle on Christmas Eve has died from his injuries.

According to SPD, officers were called to a crash at the intersection of Chestnut Expressway and Campbell Avenue at around 11:49 p.m. on Dec. 24.

In the crash, 65-year-old Daniel Oropeza of Springfield was riding a bicycle south on Campbell Avenue in the northbound lanes and was crossing Chestnut Expressway. He was then struck by a 2012 Chevy Impala, driven by 35-year-old Michael Casteel of Nixa, that was westbound on Chestnut Expressway.
