SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Scenic Avenue Bridge over Wilson’s Creek, between Sunshine Street and Bennett Street, will be closed as work begins for bridge replacement and improvements on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
According to the City of Springfield, the aging bridge structure will be replaced for safety and better stormwater management. The project also includes a new 10-foot multi-use path on the west side of the bridge and a five-foot sidewalk on the east side that will connect to the Wilson’s Creek Greenway Trail.
The Scenic Avenue Bridge will be closed for around four months, with the project expected to be completed by Summer 2026, the city says. Detours will be posted to direct drivers to use Sunshine Street, Kansas Expressway and Bennett Street during the work period.

“The current Scenic Bridge is nearing the end of its life. With the new design, we’re not only ensuring a safer, longer-lasting structure but also creating better connections for people walking and biking in our city,” said Public Works Project Manager Leree Reese in a press release. “We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to replace it and keep our roadways safe.”…
