Man arrested camping in Nixa parking lot guilty of trafficking fentanyl

A man convicted of fentanyl trafficking and illegally possessing firearms was apprehended while he was camping in his minivan in a Nixa Walmart parking lot, federal authorities said.

A federal trial jury found Jason Thompson, of Denver, guilty Wednesday, Jan. 7, of possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute, possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime and being a felon in possession of firearms, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office Western District of Missouri news release.

Nixa Police Department contacted Thompson in the early hours of Aug. 30, 2024, for camping in a minivan in the parking lot of the Nixa Walmart. The man initially provided officers with a fake name and date of birth and then attempted to flee on foot when officers tried to arrest him. He was quickly apprehended.
