SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A man from Springfield was sentenced in federal court on Wednesday, Jan. 14, for distributing fentanyl and illegally possessing firearms.
According to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice, 27-year-old Darius Bennett recieved a total sentence of 13 years in federal prison without parole.
Bennett had pleaded guilty on May 8, 2025, to possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute and possession of firearms to further a drug trafficking crime.

On Nov. 8, 2023, investigators with SPD, ATF and the DEA executed a search warrant at Burnett’s residence. In the search, law enforcement located more than 1,000 pills containing fentanyl, as well as four loaded semi-automatic pistols (two of which had extended magazines), body armor, ammunition, marijuana and nearly $79,000 in cash…
