A stranger knocked, warned of a ‘dangerous tree’ — then left a Springfield homeowner $9k out

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A man from the Kansas City area is accused of scamming a Springfield homeowner out of thousands of dollars after allegedly misrepresenting the condition of a tree and abandoning cleanup work.

Tony Dale Wickam, born in 1997, is charged with stealing $750 or more, a Class D felony, in Greene County Circuit Court.

He’s accused of appearing uninvited at a residence May 2, 2025, and soliciting tree removal services while claiming a large tree on the property was “waterlogged,” hollow and in immediate danger of falling.
