Investigators say illegal immigrant faces charges for a deadly shooting in Springfield on Tuesday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The Greene County prosecutor filed a murder charge against a teenager wanted in the shooting death of a man in Springfield.

Christopher Salazar-Montes, 19, faces second-degree murder and armed criminal action for the shooting late Tuesday night. Investigators identified the victim as Marvin Rodriquez Sanchez, 26, of Mexico.

Investigators say Salazar-Montes shot the victim in the chest over a dispute about smoking in a house in the 1900 block of North Burton Avenue. Rodriquez Sanchez later died at a Springfield hospital from the gunshot wound. U.S. Marshals arrested Salazar-Monte at a trailer park in Springfield on Wednesday.

Investigators say Salazar-Montes, of El Salvador, failed to appear on a municipal court summons in November 2024. Additionally, investigators say an immigration “Notice to Appear” was found with the defendant’s belongings.

This is Springfield’s third homicide of 2026…
