SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Hundreds of students walked out of class at Kickapoo High School late Thursday morning in a student-led demonstration supporting immigrants in the region.
The walkout began shortly before 11 a.m. as students gathered on campus, saying the demonstration was meant to stand with friends and families affected by increased immigration enforcement and the current political climate.
“It took my breath away when I got out of my vehicle and I saw all the kids here,” says Audrey Coons, a parent who attended the demonstration. “It was very emotional, and I loved to see that kids are out exercising their right to show up and be heard.”…
