Hotel of Terror petition to stop eminent domain in Springfield rejected, for now

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The Hotel of Terror’s petition to stop the city of Springfield from taking the building has been rejected.

Springfield’s city clerk announced on Thursday that the owner did not obtain enough signatures to certify. The Springfield City Council approved the use of eminent domain on December 15. The city says it needs the land to replace a 100-year-old bridge on Main Street. MoDOT says the bridge is in “poor” condition.

The attraction’s owner needed to gather 1,500 signatures. He collected 2,400 signatures, but the clerk could certify only 1,374…
