Mercy recently announced it will participate in a nationwide study to evaluate the clinical impact of the GRAIL GalleriĀ® multi-cancer early detection (MCED) test among Medicare beneficiaries. Through Mercy Health in St. Louis and Springfield, Missouri is one of just nine states in which older adults on Medicare will be able to take part in the trial.
First launched in 2021, the Galleri test is a tool to screen for cancer among people with no symptoms of the disease. With a simple blood draw, Galleri can detect a common signal from more than 50 types of cancer in their early stages, when they can be easier to treat and are potentially curable.
The three-year REACH study will compare up to 50,000 Medicare beneficiaries who have received an annual Galleri test in addition to standard healthcare to those who receive care without the test.
