Warm winter weather has shifted back into a cold mode. Morning lows were well below freezing, and afternoon highs were about 15 to 20° colder than Thursday. Now for the bad news, the weekend looks even colder.
Thursday’s storm left the door open to frigid Canadian air and waves of cold will drop south into the Eastern half of the nation.
We’ll lead the weekend off with a quick-hitting weather system that will bring a few rain and snow showers to the area after midnight. Most of the precipitation will be gone by morning, but clouds will linger, gradually becoming clear during the afternoon.
Temperatures will remain cold with highs in the 40s. Temperatures slide even further by Sunday with morning lows in the low 20s and highs in the upper 30s and low 40s. Gusty winds will drive wind chills down into the teens and 20s throughout the day.
Back-to-work weather will start with the coldest weather of the cold snap, with widespread morning lows in the teens. Afternoon readings will keep you in a coat into the afternoon.
Ok, now for some good news. We’ll quickly transition to warmer weather by Tuesday. The flow across the nation will flatten out, shutting off the pipeline of winter cold into the middle of the country.
