DOUGLAS COUNTY, Mo. (KY3) – In the wake of a shootout that followed the fatal shooting of Christian County Deputy Gabriel Ramirez, which killed Christian County Deputy Michael Hislope and injured two other deputies, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is working to address equipment gaps identified during the response.
Sheriff Chris Degase said his department has been reviewing what fell short during the incident.
“We’ve went through a lot. I mean, we’ve had some debriefs with all the other counties and looking at what kind of failed us in the situation in Stone and Christian County, what we could do to improve,” Degase said. “And I think that the biggest thing that we took away from it here in Douglas County was communication and the lack of night vision.”
