On Your Side: Webster County Sheriff warns of scam calls falsely claiming to raise money for injured deputy

MARSHFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The Webster County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents that scammers are calling people and falsely claiming to raise money on behalf of Deputy Austin McCall, who was injured during a manhunt in Christian County that also claimed the lives of deputies Gabriel Ramirez and Michael Hislope.

The sheriff’s office said one number reported making the fraudulent calls is 417-855-5850. The office said the number is not affiliated with the sheriff’s office and that it is not soliciting donations over the phone.

What to do if you receive a call

Residents who receive such a call should not provide money or personal information and should hang up immediately. The sheriff’s office is asking that any such calls be reported to their office.

How to make a legitimate donation

Residents who wish to donate to the McCall family can do so through Seymour Bank, which has an account open at all three of its branches. The sheriff’s office also accepts donations in person from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn more about funds for all of the deputies by clicking here…
