The Gillioz Theatre is seeking help from the community to recover and preserve artifacts, photographs and personal stories as it approaches its 100th anniversary.
The Gillioz Center for Arts & Entertainment is launching the Bring History Home initiative to collect memorabilia from any era, including tickets, programs, posters, playbills, newspaper clippings, photographs, film reels, concert and event memorabilia, employee recollections and personal stories, according to a community announcement.
The campaign is a response to the loss of many historic items during the theater’s closure from 1980 to 2006, when it experienced damage and vandalism. Some items were removed or safeguarded by community members.
Many items surface after closure
Nancy Dornan, who played a central role in the restoration of the Gillioz, discovered and preserved several items during the early years of the restoration.
