Springfield man set to go to trial over death of his grandmother in 2021

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A jury trial is set for 2027 for a man accused of the murder of his grandmother, 79-year-old Judy Bishop, in August 2021.

Brandon Wilson, 39, of Springfield, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence. His jury trial is scheduled for April 26, 2027, with a pre-trial conference scheduled five days earlier on April 21.

According to previous Ozarks First coverage, Wilson was released from a hospital on Aug. 25 and returned to Bishop’s home in the 200 block of West Atlantic Street. Wilson’s mother told investigators he wasn’t supposed to be at her home, but Bishop “would not turn him away.”

Wilson has previously been arrested multiple times for domestic assault, including assault against Bishop, and Bishop had an order of protection against Wilson in 2019. Wilson’s mother also told investigators that he is bipolar, schizophrenic, and psychotic, and she had tried to have him committed because he could not be handled…
