City Utilities to invest $10M to boost Springfield electric reliability

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — City Utilities of Springfield (CU) is increasing its investment in electric system reliability in fiscal year 2026, dedicating nearly $10 million to tree trimming and pole replacement efforts aimed at helping provide safe and reliable power to the community.

CU said the additional funding follows another year of reliability improvements.

In the 2025 fiscal year, CU trimmed trees along about 103 miles of electric lines to remove vegetation that can contribute to outages during storms. The utility also replaced 1,075 electric poles, up from 681 poles replaced the previous year…
