Springfield man convicted for breaking girlfriend’s jaw, trying to silence her

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Greene County jury convicted a Springfield man on Tuesday, March 24, for assaulting his girlfriend and trying to silence her.

After a two-day trial in the Greene County Circuit Court, the jury found Thomas Norton, 33, guilty of first-degree domestic assault, tampering with a witness and tampering with a victim.

According to the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney, on Sept. 27, 2025, Springfield police officers found Norton inside his home, standing over the bloodied victim. Evidence showed that Norton struck the victim in the face and broke her jaw, making it difficult for her to speak.

While in the Greene County Jail, he had made phone calls where he discussed ways to get the victim to drop the charges, saying that getting her to cooperate was “the cheapest way” to avoid a prison sentence of 10-30 years.

He also sent two letters to the victim’s address, where he apologized for the assault, asked the victim to “free me up at prelim,” and pleaded for mercy. One of the letters also referenced the song “Posed To Be In Love,” where the lyrics depict domestic violence, stalking, and threats against a partner who attempts to leave the relationship…
