Zookeepers euthanize tiger at Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Edited News Release/KY3) – The staff at Dickerson Park Zoo announced the death of Cinta, a 12-year-old Malayan tiger.

On Monday, March 23, Cinta’s caregivers noticed his behavior was abnormal; he was lethargic and not interested in food. After being anesthetized, he was transported to the zoo hospital for an exam.

“Cinta’s exam showed him to be anemic,” said DPZ head veterinarian Dr. Stephanie Carle. “An ultrasound revealed his abdomen was full of blood from a bleeding tumor. During emergency surgery, it was discovered the tumor was not removable, and the decision was made to humanely euthanize him.”…
