Springfield-Branson National Airport donates iconic carpet to history museum

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The Springfield-Branson National Airport donated three squares of its iconic carpet to the Springfield History Museum on Thursday.

The carpet with river-like designs has been in the terminal since it opened more than 16 years ago. The airport is replacing the carpet with terrazzo, a decorative flooring that uses liquid resin mixed with chips of glass and stone.

“It’s not so much the carpet squares themselves are what’s historically important but, it tells a story of the growth of the airport,” said Sean FitzGibbons. “It tells a story of when Springfieldians land and are finally home from their vacations, and they’re walking through the airport. So those memories, it’s those stories that we’re excited to have in our collection and make available to communities in the future.”…
