PINEVILLE, Mo. — Missouri health officials issued a statewide alert this month after a synthetic opioid was detected in wastewater at several public schools.
Michael Hall said the drug, nitazene, is a synthetic opioid that was never approved for medical use.
“It’s an opioid, synthetic opioid, that actually developed back in the 1950s, from what I understand. It’s been around for a while, but it has no medical uses,” said Michael Hall, McDonald County Health Department Director.
