SPRINGFIELD, MO – Construction work at Battlefield Mall revealed some interesting “signs” of the city’s retail history.
On Monday, contractors removing the facade on the old Dillard’s women’s store uncovered signage from the building’s original tenant, the Montgomery Ward department store. Crews are demolishing the exterior as part of a project to convert the building into a new Dick’s Sporting Goods store.
The glimpse into history didn’t last long, and the signage was gone by late Monday afternoon as demolition crews continued their job. Just beforehand, viewer Christian Schnake snapped some pictures of the signs and shared them with Ozarks First (photos below).…
