SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A new landmark celebrating the legacy of Route 66 is beginning to take shape in Springfield.
The base of the Queen’s Gate 66 sculpture is now in place along St. Louis Street, just west of Glenstone Avenue near the Best Western Route 66 Rail Haven.
Once fully installed, the crown-like structure is expected to serve as more than a visual centerpiece. City leaders say the design represents a sunburst, symbolizing Springfield’s role in the origin story of Route 66…
