Second rabies case confirmed in skunk near Fellows Lake

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -The Springfield-Greene County Health Department has confirmed a second case of rabies in a skunk near Fellows Lake within two weeks.

The health department has provided direct communication to residents in the immediate vicinity. While the exposure risk to the community remains low, officials are reminding community members of rabies prevention methods as spring and summer months arrive.

Rabies is a fatal but preventable disease. The virus can spread to people and pets through the bites or scratches of infected animals. An infected animal will not always exhibit any obvious symptoms.
