GREENE COUNTY, Mo. — The Springfield Police Department has received reports of a scam and warns the public not to fall victim to it.
The scam involves a letter or text of the image below showing what appears to be a final notice to pay a toll, parking violation, and a speeding violation.
SPD says it’s all a scam. “First, we live in Greene County, not Jackson County. And, there are no toll roads in Missouri. Second, the State of Missouri isn’t going to text you a random flyer for a court date that looks like it was made with ChatGPT,” said an SPD Facebook post.
SPD says some red flags to look out for include:
- “Immediate action” language. If you feel pressure to act, slow down and verify.
- Asks for immediate payment through a random QR code
- Lists multiple random violations
Recipients are recommended not to scan the QR code, send money, or enter personal information…
