Sod Poodles fall to Cardinals in 10 innings, swept in opening series

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Amarillo Sod Poodles fall to the Springfield Cardinals 6-4 in 10 innings Sunday at HODGETOWN.

The Sod Poodles rallied to tie the game in the ninth inning but fell short in extras as the Cardinals swept the three-game series.

Springfield’s Mason Molina and Amarillo’s Ashton Izzi each pitched five innings in a scoreless duel until the Sod Poodles scored first. Jesus Valdez singled home Jansel Luis with two outs in the fourth.

Cardinals break through in eighth

Alec Baker kept Springfield off the board for two innings in relief. Alfred Morillo replaced him in the eighth allowed the Cardinals’ third grand-slam of the series, giving Springfield a 4-1 lead.

Amarillo forces extras

The Sod Poodles cut into the lead in the ninth against Domenic Picone. Manuel Pena drove in a run with a single to make it 4-2. Luis followed with an RBI groundout to bring the tying run to third base…
