Houston, TX – Three words appearing in a winter weather warning could signal a storm far more dangerous than the occasional snow and ice Gulf Coast residents experience. From Texas to Florida, recognizing those words could become important during the 2026-27 winter season, especially in communities where freezing conditions can quickly disrupt travel and essential services.
According to NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center, the National Weather Service is expanding the use of “Particularly Dangerous Situation,” or PDS, wording in select Blizzard Warnings and Ice Storm Warnings this winter.
