Vanishing Cloven Hoofprints: Mystery Found in North Alabama

A snowfall with accumulation is a rare event in Alabama. When north Alabama recently received approximately 4 inches of snow, a lot of people took to the outdoors to enjoy its beauty. Things such as animal tracks that would normally go unnoticed were made highly visible in the perfect blanket of snow. A bizarre set of what looked like cloven hoofprints were made in the snow in North Alabama. They look like ordinary deer tracks at first glance. Strangely, the tracks appeared out of nowhere in the middle of an open field, then disappeared completely after a few steps. The landowner who made the photos said, “It was as if whatever made them just landed, walked a few steps, then flew away.” What were these mysterious prints in the snow that appeared and then disappeared abruptly?

When I was first made aware of the tracks, they reminded me of the infamous “Devil’s Footprints” of England – a mystery that remains to this day. In 1855, near Devon England, residents awoke after an overnight snowfall to a set of mysterious cloven hoofprints that went for on for supposedly hundreds of miles.
