BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Alabama state Rep. John Rogers has been indicted again by a federal grand jury for additional offenses involving a fraud scheme against the Jefferson County Community Service Fund.
Last year , former District 55 Rep. Fred Plump was indicted for conspiring to direct money from the community fund into his Piper Davis Youth Baseball League, along with his assistant Varrie Johnson Kindall, for over four years. Plump later pleaded guilty to conspiracy and obstruction of justice charges and resigned from office.
Rogers, 83, has served in the Alabama House of Representatives since 1982.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, between fiscal year 2018 and fiscal year 2022, defendant Rogers allocated about $500,000 by the Fund. Rogers directed around $400,000 of those discretionary funds to Piper Davis. In turn, Plump gave about $200,000 to Rogers and Kindall as a kickback.
