(Alabama)– On Feb. 2, 2024, Alabama Representative Allen Treadaway introduced House Bill 81 (HB81) requesting for an amendment to Section 15-22-27.3, Code of Alabama 1975. Currently, anyone convicted of inappropriate activities with a minor is eligible for a pardon. Rep. Treadaway wants to make those convicted of such crimes ineligible.

The bill specifically states:

Under existing law, the Board of Pardons and Paroles is the agency responsible for granting or denying an individual a pardon. This bill would provide that an individual convicted of a s*x offense involving a child is not eligible for a pardon.

Rep. Treadaway is requesting for this bill to be enacted on Oct. 1, 2024.
