The Alabama State Board of Education Thursday approved a resolution recommending tighter cell phone use restrictions in schools.

The resolution, which won unanimous approval, encourages local boards of education to regulate the use of electronic communication devices on school property. The resolution also says that the state board believes that it is better for students and school employees if the use is limited and “strongly” encourages local boards to adopt written policies limiting the use of devices on property.

The resolution also encourages local boards of education to provide training and support to teachers and staff on the policy.
