Giovanni Loyola is suing the Alabama police after he was punched in the face, kneaded on his back, and handcuffed extremely tight; his hand had to be amputated.”
According to the 2021 lawsuit that is currently headed to trial, Loyola was at his home in late February 2020 when deputies Christopher Godber, Ashanti McKinney, and Jared White came to his door regarding a complaint of two men fighting with weapons.
Though he wasn’t allegedly involved in the fight, Officer Godber allegedly dragged him down the stairs, slammed him against the car before throwing him to the ground and cuffing him.
He was then taken to jail, where he spent a few days, though his charges weren’t clear.
Upon his release, he sought medical help as his left wrist was hurting and his fingertips had begun changing color (grey). Unfortunately, upon inspection, doctors ruled he needed emergency surgery, citing problems with the flow of blood in his left hand.
Without any other choice, they amputated him (his left hand), leaving him unable to work and support his family.
