David Wood, 61: Alabama Escapee Left in His State-Supplied Boxers and Hasn’t Been Seen Since 2018

(Alabama)– On May 21, 2018, an Alabama inmate made a conscious decision and decided to escape from an elderly and sick facility where he was serving a life sentence, as reported by the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC). However, as of Feb. 2024, the agency never announced that David Wood, 61, was recaptured and taken back into custody.

An article by NBC 15 News reported that Wood had escaped a work release site in 2015 and was recaptured days later. Despite being recaptured, Wood remained motivated to become a free man.

In 2018, he left Hamilton Aged and Infirmed in Marion Cty. in only his state-supplied white boxers without a trace.

An article by UTV 44 News gave additional details about the incident that landed Wood behind bars for life and stated:

Penny Enzor was married to Wood in 1994 but the marriage did not last long. On May 20, 1994, Enzor says she awoke to her ex-husband,Wood, breaking into her house at 1am. She says he grabbed her and bashed her head against the wall. He stuck a shotgun to her leg and pulled the trigger. He also bashed her in the top of her head with the shotgun.
