Weather Aware Wednesday through Friday for Impacts of Heavy Rain, Flooding, and Gusty Winds from a cold front and Helene
Tonight : a cold front will move into Alabama from the northwest. This will bring us a line of heavy rain and a few storms that will continue into the morning commute. Lows will be in the upper 60s.
Tomorrow : The cold front will stall across Alabama on Wednesday. This will draw up moisture from Helene and bring Central Alabama heavy rain and storms. Some of the rain could lead to flash flooding issues in the typical flooding locations. It will be cooler with highs in the upper 70s.
Helene will make landfall along the Florida Panhandle near Apalachicola, FL as a Category 3 Major Hurricane by Thursday evening. Bands of heavy rain will move north of the center of the storm across Central Alabama throughout the day.
Rain totals of 2-5″ are possible between Wednesday and Thursday. The highest totals will be across Eastern Alabama, or closer to the center of Helene.
