Heavy Showers & Thunderstorms Developing Across Parts of Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi

Strong to Severe Thunderstorms Possible This Afternoon in Georgia & The Carolinas

Good morning everyone. The Northeast continues to be socked in with clouds and we’ll have to wait an extra day for the payoff, but nice weather is coming Saturday and beyond. Our slow moving front bringing some rain and rumbles to western Pennsylvania, will slowly slide east and give the region some scattered showers and thunderstorms. Tomorrow evening and/or nighttime will be the best chance to see some heavier thunderstorms in a narrow line across New England down into northwest New Jersey.

While we are obviously watching the approach of our tropical system into the Florida Panhandle as well as a heavy lashing on the west coast of the state, we currently have some severe weather to contend with in other areas. That cold front hung up in the Northeast and Ohio River Valley, stretches down to the Gulf Coast and is starting to collide with tropical energy well ahead of our system.

Because of this, we are watching strong to severe storms beginning to develop across parts of Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. Earlier, we saw embedded storms in eastern Tennessee capable of large hail and winds nearing 60mph. Expect this trend to continue and intensify, all while becoming more organized as energy streams north off of the Gulf of Mexico and collides with that front.
