When a book is dedicated to Kathryn Tucker Windham, you know it’s going to explore some spooky territory. In “Some Nightmares are Real: The Haunting Truth Behind Alabama’s Supernatural Tales,” that territory is the whole state that author Kelly Kazek calls home. Kazek said the 10 illustrated stories within cover legends from all points, from the towns flooded to create Weiss Lake near Gadsden and “The Dead Children’s Playground” in Huntsville to “The Wolf Woman of Mobile” and a mysterious green light said to drift along the Alabama River in the Black Belt community of Gee’s Bend. Other tales are set in Birmingham, Auburn, Gee’s Bend and Jacksonville.
