Alabama unemployment fiasco reaches U.S. Supreme Court on Monday

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday will hear oral arguments in an Alabama case that stems from excessive delays and confusion in Alabama’s troubled unemployment system. The court is considering whether Alabamians who sued the Alabama Department of Labor over problems with the state’s rollout of unemployment funds during COVID-19 should first be required to wait to finish their appeals — even though the delays in appeals were the reason for the suit.
