Alabama Republicans, Democrats say more work needs to be done with their parties in 2025

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Members of both the Republican and Democratic parties in Alabama both agree that 2024 was a successful year in different ways for them.

However, they also agreed that they both needed to do more work in 2025.

Randy Kelley, chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party, said they helped candidates win critical races this year, such as State Rep. Marilyn Lands (D-Huntsville).

“And also, Shomari Figures was elected to Congress in that second congressional district, with the help of our staff,” Kelley explained.

John Wahl, chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, said they hosted the state’s first ever presidential primary debate.

“And really, had this opportunity to build Alabama’s profile nationally in the conservative movement,” remarked Wahl. “And I know that’s one of my priorities as party chairman.”

When it comes to goals for 2025, Kelley said Democrats must continue uniting.

“I have a saying that ‘Everybody seems to be operating, but very few people are cooperating,’” he said. “And it’s going to take all of us cooperating together to make a more just and loving state.”
