54 Indicted in Large-Scale Drug Ring Operating from Alaska

In a landmark operation that reads like the plot of a crime thriller, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska has unveiled the indictment of 54 individuals connected to a sprawling drug trafficking ring with tentacles reaching from the confines of a California state prison cell all the way to the remote communities of Alaska. This operation, masterminded by 57-year-old Heraclio Sanchez-Rodriguez from his prison cell, has sent shockwaves through law enforcement and the communities affected by the scourge of drugs like fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine.

Sanchez-Rodriguez, leveraging contraband cellphones, orchestrated a complex web of drug distribution that funneled significant quantities of narcotics from Mexico, through suppliers in California and Oregon, to distributors across Alaska. From February 2022 to July 2023, authorities intercepted an astonishing haul of drugs intended for Alaskan streets: approximately 36 kilograms of fentanyl, 27.3 kilograms of meth, 11.3 kilograms of heroin, and 118 grams of cocaine​​.
